What it does
ImTranslator provides in-browser translations, inline pop-up translation, text-to-speech, transliteration, and a context menu for quick access.
Quick installation (Chrome)
- Open the Chrome Web Store and search for “ImTranslator”.
- Click “Add to Chrome” then confirm by selecting Add extension.
- After installation, an ImTranslator icon appears in the toolbar — pin it for easy access.
Basic settings to configure
- Default languages: Set your source and target languages to avoid repeated selection.
- Translation engine: Choose between available engines (e.g., Google Translate, Microsoft) if shown.
- Popup behavior: Enable or disable inline pop-up translation on text selection.
- Text-to-speech: Select voice language and playback speed.
- Keyboard shortcuts: Configure or review shortcuts for instant translate and read-aloud.
- Context menu: Toggle which context-menu items appear when you right-click selected text.
- Auto-detect language: Turn on to let the extension detect source language automatically.
How to translate
- Select text on a webpage.
- Click the toolbar icon or use the keyboard shortcut to open ImTranslator.
- Choose target language and click Translate — or enable the popup to see translation immediately.
Tips for best experience
- Pin the extension to the toolbar for faster access.
- Grant any requested permissions so inline translation works properly.
- If translations seem off, try switching the translation engine or reloading the page.
- Use text-to-speech for pronunciation practice.
